Security
Security is the need to feel safe. Having a home, a family, a plan
for the future all contribute to feeling empowered to handle
the chaos
that life throws at you. For some people it is having money in
the bank; a retirement account; a secure job. For others, it may mean
having a house (maybe even having the mortgage paid off); a
dependable car; or living near friends
and family. Often times, insurance policies
contribute to an overall feeling of security, whether it is life
insurance or
health. Some people will even go so far as to carry a gun as a
way to bolster a sense of safety. Even having a strong personal
faith
can bring security to a person’s life.
After our fire, we definitely needed the security of home.
Fortunately, the insurance policy that we had, provided the money
to pay for six months
rent and our car was not damaged in the fire. We also lived in a
very giving community. We received
many material and monetary gifts that allowed us to get back to a
feeling of security really quickly. Our trust that we would be able
to handle
the unexpected
allowed us to regain our confidence.
Positive characteristics: Feeling safe and trusting
that no matter what life brings you can handle it and things will
be okay.
Negative characteristics: Feeling paralyzed by fear, which reduces
your ability to function or make decisions. There may be an urge
to react
strongly to any perceived threat.
Someone lacking in security will be more effected by unforeseen events
or sudden changes. They may not be able to cope well in a time
of crisis. Someone with a lower ranking security need will be
more likely
to welcome
Adventure.
