Exploring Inclusion

The psychology behind inclusion

Our society, the stigma

The ultimate goal of the program

In November 2003 I had the oppertunity to visit a classroom in central Minnesota that catered to a very special group of highschool students. As part of a project for my college news reporting class, I spent time with the staff and children that made up a very unique environment.

The following pages are an exploration into what I found thoughout my time in the class room and the time spent outside of it, researching the art of inclusion: the art of integrating people with disabilities into our society.

Inclusion is defined as incorporating mentally and phyically challanged children and adults in a normal highschool environment in an effort to prepare them for the real world, real job oppertunities, and the chance to be a viable part of every day life.
