Born in Kenya and trained as a nurse in both Kenya and Uganda, Grace worked as midwife, a tutor and also a journalist. Her stories depict a lot of this life experiences she had. Her stories have diverse themes like love, death traditions Vs modernity. One of her powerful collection of her own short stories is Land Without thunder. Promised Land deals with the subject of migration, the graduate is a story of a male protagonist who studies abroad and later returns to Kenya. The novel offers a comment on inequality on Kenyan women, It show how they are deprived but at the same time very successful when they get the opportunity. Her creativity has contributed to cultural development and women’s emancipation in the African society. |
