Learning to grieve the loss of someone to suicide

...home

A few facts:

  • In 1996, about 31,000 people died from suicide in the United States
  • The 3rd leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds is suicide
  • Men are 4 times more likely than women to kill themselves
  • Every 18 minutes someone in the United States dies by suicide. Every 19 minutes someone is left to make sense of it

The grief someone is forced to deal with is immediate. It depends, however, on whom you lose and your relationship with them that determines to what degree one grieves.

"It's total disbelief and totally shocking either way," said Carla Fine, author of widely acclaimed book, No Time to Say Goodbye.

The purpose of this site is to allow you to find out more on how to grieve a suicide. Also by doing this I hope to rid of some of the stigmas that surround suicide in our society.

My goal is for you to learn more about the grieving process in hopes that extra education may reduce the suicide rates.
