How to Procrastinate

Janel Budenski

"If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he next comes to drinking and sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination."
~Thomas DeQuincey

Procrastination n.
Not doing something because of laziness or because you'd rather do something else.

Do It

Procrastination may be done by simply putting aside whatever needs to be done, or should be done and doing something else. Essentially, there is nothing to be said on how to procrastinate. Deciding to be lazy and to do something other than what is being done, is a decision to be made on your own.

Top 3 Reasons

  1. Enjoy making excuses
  2. It keeps you open to go out anytime
  3. If you wait long enough, someone else might do it

Doing It

Surfing the web is an excellent way to forget about doing something that needs to get done. Checking email, looking for recipes or scrolling the personals for a Friday night date are perfect ways to procrastinate while surfing the web.

Blankets may be used to cover up completely, to have fun or just to keep warm. They may also be used in being lazy and relaxing in a mode of procrastination while projecting items at roommates. Forts and barriers may also be built by blankets. As well as forming a wall to sneak in an extra roommate for cheaper rent.

Procrastinating to all hours of the night has accomplished nothing and by this time all that sounds like a great idea is rest. Waking up in the morning at a last attempt in getting something done is NOT an option.

Why We Do It

Poor work habits
Procrastinating is the least of worries. Being so far behind in everything it's difficult even knowing where to begin.

Feeling various emotions
Confused on how to do an assignment, it may be easier and less stressful to not do it at all. Upset about something and can't focus on doing what needs to be done leads to even more frustration and putting it off completely.

Perfection
Being a perfectionist usually means working on one thing until it's perceived as perfect by the one doing it. This means during that time, something else is being put off as well.

Do something else
There are tasks and assignments that we don't necessarily like to do that are put off because we'd just simply rather do something that's not as much work and more pleasing.

Procrastination is like masturbation, at first it feels good , but in the end you're just screwing yourself.

About

Janel Budenski is a senior at Bemidji State University and has been studying procrastination (actually it's Mass Communications) ever since her freshman year. She enjoys running, basketball and being outdoors. Procrastinating is also something she does well.

She was born Janel Rose Budenski on December 1, 1982 to Kenneth and Karen. She is the fourth of five children, all names beginning with the letter "J". Three brothers and one sister make up her siblings.

Finishing up her senior year, her main focus is her thesis based on Media Coverage of Suicide. The topic was chosen for a better understanding of suicides and specifically the suicide of her brother Jason, five years ago. If anyone cares to ask questions about suicide, procrastination or just wants to know something about Janel, don't hesitate to email her at: janelbudenski@yahoo.com

Janel says "If I live to see tomorrow, I can do it then."

warning: Failing papers, tests and/or classes is your own fault and may result from over procrastination. Also, do it, doing it and why we do it, are not in reference at any point to sex. It is merely a coincidence that masturbation is in the last quote that is used.
