How To Stay Awake In Hagg-Sauer 100
By Brian Hopkins
For many of students attending Bemidji State University, HS 100 is a room that they will get to know. The room, mainly used for large introductory courses, is the largest lecture hall on campus. With roughly 500 seats, it's relatively easy to go to class unnoticed. Plus, comfortable chairs make it ha rd to stay awake.
Whether taking an introductory science, sociology or psychology course, chances are that the lack of interesting information may cause you to become tired. Here are some tips, to avoid sleeping in class.
How To Do It
- First, try to get a decent night of sleep before you go to class. I know you have other things going on in your life, but try to get at least five hours of sleep. An 8:00 am Physical Science class might be tough to stay awake for.
- Also, drink the proper beverages. If you are having trouble staying awake, go and get an energy fix. Whether a Mountain Dew, a cup of coffee or a can of Red Bull, some liquid energy might do the trick for avoiding shut-eye.
- Next, bring some reading material (something besides your textbook). If you want to look like you are paying attention, to perhaps avoid being singled out as a sleeper, just look like you are studying. I suggest a magazine. Bring a Maxim, Cosmo, or something else that can keep your attention. Read something that interests you. Not only will this impress your professor, but it will give you something a little more interesting to read than a sociology textbook.
- Finally, if these options have failed and you just can't stay awake, skip class. Chances are you won't miss much anyway, since usually the notes are on the internet. Just stay home to sleep, and make sure that you wake up for your noon class.
