Purpose

The purpose of our site is to inform people about Milden Heritage Days. These people include farmers, townspeople and tourists who are interested in the area. It is an informative site that includes many pictures of the tractors involved. It is used for some entertainment, but primarily for information.

It includes:

  • Pictures of Milden Heritage Days
  • Information, descriptions and history of the tractors
  • Links on related subjects
  • The Milden web site

Design

We wanted our site to be infomative and image driven. We tried to achieve this by including the history of the tractors, history of the town (eventually), an overview of the events surrounding Milden Heritage Days and many images for the users to view.

We also wanted to leave the user with a feeling of user friendliness. We kept things simple and uncluttered so that the user would not get distracted by the site and focus on the content and images.

We also wanted the users to be able to focus on certain tractors. We accomplished this by making them into their own pages with a description for them if they were interested.

Problems

We had some problems with the linking in our page and outside of our page. We attempted to do these things by copying and pasting, but remedied it by using the "Apple V" technique.

The large amounts of images were also a problem. There was a lot of editing involved with the pictures which took a lot of time. The picture sizes also led to a longer load up time on slower modems.

The templates did not always agree with us either. We had a hard time updating them when we made changes. They seemed to work sometimes, but others they did not want to. Hopefully this will be something that we can work on next semester.

The number of pages that this site can potentially be is daunting. It gave us a feeling of "Where do we start?" Once we began, we chipped away on the basics knowing we can add the rest later. This led to the problem of time with our website and there just did not seem to be enough of it.

Division of Responsibilities

Dana took on the responsibilities of all the picture taking, much of the Dreamweaver work and information about Milden.

Rhiannon was the "English chick." She did the majority of the writing and editing of the site, helped with the Dreamweaver work and and kept her father on task.

The division of responsibilities in this project was very even. When one was weak in an area the other picked up the slack. No one was the leader. It was a democracy. Except when Dana hogged the mouse.
