Introduction
Milden
Heritage Days began in 1985 when a group of local farmers decided to obtain
their steam engine licenses. They attended classes in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
at the Western Development Museum.
After obtaining their licenses, they decided that they would start an
antique farming demonstration for the local residents as well as visitors
from all parts of the Great Plains. The demonstration developed into the
"Milden Heritage Days." This event is held every other year
on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in October.
The day starts with a pancake breakfast at the local school and then moves
out to the fair grounds for the parade of tractors, steam engines, separators
and antique vehicles. Lunch is served in a large tent that is set up specifically
for the occasion and consists of roast beef on a bun and one of the best
tasting pies on earth, Saskatoon Berry.
The afternoon activities consist of steam versus vintage gas-powered tractors.
These tractors are hooked up to antique separators and used in the field
to thresh oats. There are also antique combines harvesting in the field,
horse powered binder grain cutting and a stook loading demonstration.
The evening brings a Gospel Concert after a community fall supper. The
last part of the celebration is a dance at the Elks Hall.
This site provides you with a pictorial tour of the town of Milden, Saskatchewan
as well as the people involved, tractors, steam engines and other vintage
farming equipment.
