Transportation

Since there is a problem with transport in Bemidji, it's important to prepare adequately by getting a driving license just in case you need to buy or borrow a car. Also since you might not get a job right away it is important to have money so you can get around with the public transport. -Mary

There are also occasional vans available to transport International Students to the Paul Bunyan Mall on weeknights and a one semester trip to the Mall of America.

Shuttle Bus and Taxi

It is very inconvenient for us to go anywhere. There is only one bus and one taxi in this city. However, the thing not too bad is we have a school shuttle. In winter, waiting for the shuttles to come becomes a test to check people's patience and the ablity to endure the cold. –Jing

Having grown up in Bemidji most of my life I agree on the inconvenience of getting from place to place if you are car-less. In my life I think I’ve only seen one or two taxis in Bemidji. One time I even had to call for one and they told me it would be 15-20 minutes and I waited 40 minutes before I called a friend to come and get me instead. The city bus service is the same way I remember when I worked at a coffeehouse and some of the customers would call for the bus and they would wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I think there may be about 2 buses I’ve seen in Bemidji. -Jamie
