Arts and Entertainment

Bemidji is not a very large town. New students just coming to town often have trouble finding things to do. The facts are that it is sometimes difficult to stay entertained in Bemidji. This doesn't mean that there is nothing to do, it just means that finding it may be difficult. For those interested in the Arts, there are always exhibits being displayed in one of the 4 on campus galleries or the numerous off campus. If paintings aren't your thing, than you can stop in on a poetry reading in Memorial Hall or Brigid's Cross, a play in Bangsberg or the Paul Bunyon Playhouse, or a concert performed by the University symphonic band or the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra. Otherwise, you can always go to the Amigo, Bemidji's movie theater.

Being a College town there are interesting events going on at the campus, which are both free to students and community members alike, such as visiting the campus galleries. All galleries on campus, the Talley, Touché, and Gallery X, are free for student and community member viewing pleasure. All three feature new, old, and upcoming artists and you can sometimes find the artists themselves hanging out answering questions in the evenings. Don't let this damper your thoughts of going off-campus or around town. Bemidji hosts its own bus transport, and for those cold winter months when vehicles arent working, it's safer to take the bus rather then fight through negative thirty to forty below weather. Free to students, it is an easy and simple way to get around town.
