The English Department from year to year usually has a number of work-study positions for interested students.

These include a number Teaching Assistantships and some of the positions in the Writing Resource Center.

Here's some advice on how to get a little extra experience and financial help:

  • Get in early! Don't wait till the third week of school to get the ball rolling. Do it the first day or the first week of class in the Fall. If you don't get a work-study position, it's probably because you were just a hair too late.
  • Go to the financial aid office. Work-study is a financial aid opportunity and is organized through that office.
  • Fill out a FAFSA. Without this, there is no chance of a work-study position.
  • Fill out the BSU financial aid application. Make sure to check the box that says, “work-study,” or you will not be eligible. It may be bureaucratic, but that's the way it works.
  • If you don't get the job you want, try again next semester or next year. Don't give up.

Good luck.
