Now THAT was a good essay, thanks Michael. I found his criticisms to be to the point, well articulated, and logically reasoned.

As for listening to the nay-sayer about the "songwriting course", please do. I have only three words that will support my position: John Mayer wannabes.

do the world a favor, and stop this bad idea before it starts.

I was doing a little research into what makes a blog and I was seriously thinking about the content of all blogs. Perhaps it was motivation I was looking for, maybe it was some sound sage advice. Either way, what I found was a little bit perplexing and at the same time inspiring.

It prompted me to delete my Carbonated Pop-culture weblog and yet keep my Absolute Tea one. So in a sense this post is to let Dr. Morgan know that he can remove it from the sidebar.

Anyways, I'm still not sure what to make of this essay I found that is all about weblogs in general. It's clever, it's harsh, and it was just plain entertaining to read. I must warn you though that if you click on the link you will be subjected to coarse, adult (and frankly rude) language.

If you do choose to read it I suggest you don't take anything personally and read the document all the way through. This way you can comment about it as I would love to hear what you fellow bloggers think.

I think it's a wonderful idea. Don't listen to the party-pooper!

ugh.

BSU doesn't need to offer another opportunity for hemp wearing hippies to ruin everyone else's day.

The whole song writing thing is the reason I took the poetry classes. It sounds like it would be complicated to incorporate songwriting into the English department because what defines songwriting? The musical notes attached to the words, or the words themselves? Either way, if BSU could pul it off that would be sweet, too bad I'm graduating this fall.

The idea of creating a course to help guide those who aren't used to putting their words to music is beautiful. Though I find it rather perplexing that BSU hasn't already offered a course in songwriting...

Songwriting course?,

I got an email from Loni a couple of days ago.

Hey!

This is totally a random e-mail, but I'm just wondering if BSU has ever thought of offering a songwriting course. I just think it'd be cool...and it'd be awesome to see the music department and the english department collaborate to make a class like that's really...unique. I was thinking about it at the beginning of the summer, and I imagined there being a course where students wrote songs and found students from the music department to put music to those songs...And then maybe they could all have a special concert at the end of the semester to present those songs.

Probably a CRAZY idea (maybe you'd rather just stick writing lyrics and that's all), but I just thought I'd run it by you since you're kinda known as the king of trying new things at BSU.

Have a great day!

Loni

Well? What do you think? If there's interest, I'll start talking to some people.

Anybody see the Colbert Report a couple of days ago when "wikiality" was the word? Colbert challenged wikipedia users to write that the african elephant population was increasing, and consequently african elephant page is now locked from being edited. It's pretty funny.
