As if bullies didn't have enough ways to torture their peers....

Although it's been going on for a while - this is the first time I've really seen anything in the news about it: Cyberbulling.

Is ransomware news or am I just out of it?

Here's my final write up for the class. It's in wiki format, instead of blog.

don't all rush at once
There's still room to sign up for for that prime presentation day: Mon, 24 April.  The presentation is your trial run for your final write up - a good opportunity to get some feedback.  tic toc.

sign up for presentations
We have time for up to four presentations per day.  There are still two openings for Monday.  And I've opened Weds, 3 May, for two presentations.  Add your name to the page.

studio tours finished
Studio Tours are in - and there is quite a range of views and comments.  It's interesting to see what people read for, what they value, what they see, and what they miss - and how they assign meaning to what they see.  A number of viewers had a look at project proposals to get a sense of what they project was aiming for, and used that insight in reading the blog or wiki.

They sure tell me a lot about how you read: what you see and what you make of that seeing.  I hope you're finding them useful as you prepare your presentations.

I'm done posting on the daybook for tonight - I promise.

Oooops, that was supposed to be a link.
Wasn't it?

Studio Tour 2

Here, now it's a link.
This is Molly again.

Stern and Hodgson were in eachother's places the last time we did studio tours. That's why I did the 3rd, 5th and 6th after my name, rather than the "4th" 5th and 6th.

My Studio tours are done. It is midnight now, but they were done at 11:59. They are for Stern, Easterling, and Swensen.
I'm molly, by the way.

Here is my tour of Simpson, Theroux and Votava.

I'd like 200 points, please.

I'm posting this a little in advance in case I forget.

200 Points or Full.

Theroux: Echoed Images
Simpson: 3rd Grade Project
Hahn : Major Daze

Studio Tours II: Of Stern, McAnnay, and Heilman to be found HERE.
(yes, I realize these aren't exactly in proper order, but blame internet publishing practices and personal interest.)

Read my review of Swenson, McAnnany, and Heilman's projects here. Your blogs were terrific - I thoroughly enjoyed each one!

Michael, just click on the link Morgan has on the left. That's it!

My Studio Tour 2 is complete.

I am contracting for 200pts.

To see what I thought of Muriel's, Michelle's and Kuha's projects go HERE.

And forget the queen - Happy Birthday to MY Mommy!

Jessica Hahn's Studio Tour 2 (if I can stop editing it)

Eric Kuha reporting. Studio Tour 2 completed! You can find it right about

here.

Does anyone remember if there was something special you had to do to see Sharon's 3rd grader wiki project? I can find a wiki page, but I don't know if that is the full site or if there was another one that i needed a pass word for.

An answer before midnight would certainly kick ass.

Thanks,

Michael Heilman

My studio tours for Dr. Kuha, Michelle, and Jessica Hahn are done!

I enjoyed touring your projects, guys.

My StudioTours are done for Hawkins, Hahn, and Simpson. I am contracting for 200 points.

And say Happy 80th Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II, and to the BBC.

Bemidjipedia
Eric - Thanks for the heads up on Bemidjipedia.  I made a couple of edits to test the waters and noticed that they set aside a place for Bemidji Blogs.  Anyone know who's behind it?

Looks like there's a new wiki for the city of Bemidji. It's pretty new, there isn't much up yet. Looks like they just started up this week. Should be pretty interesting to see how it develops. Tell your friends about it. Find it here: Bemidjipedia.

freelancers take note: blogging is good for you
Back in January, the press was warning bloggers to be careful: blogging could get you fired.  But now it's spring, and reports are claiming Blogs 'essential' to a good career.
''It's the new public relations and it's the new home page. Instead of a static home page, you have your blog," [Phil van Allen] said. It's a way to let people know what you are thinking about the field that interests you.
And, in the obligatory List of Reasons to Blog ("Blogging creates a network," "Blogging is great training") is this mention of a professional who posts love letters in the form of occasional essays, vignettes, observations:
Dervala Hanley writes a quirky literary blog that got her a job is at Stone Yamashita Partners, a consulting firm that ''tries to bring humanity to business." Hanley says the firm was attracted to her ability to put her business experience into personal terms on the blog.
Looks like we'll do a week on Blogging for Dollars: Freelancing for the Online Professional in Weblogs and Wikis next year.

And how about about this for an image of the online writer (from "The Wishing Chair").

My Studio Tour 2 of Jes, Dan, and William's projects is completed and can be found here.

Okay, I posted this on Rage Dump, but then I realized that no one reads Rage Dump and decided to post it here.

On the online forum I belong to someone posted a link to the blog of a guy who murdered a girl and intended to eat her. It is so creepy! I guess that's one way to get your blog read, but Jesus! Here is the CNN news story about the guy. The thing that bothered me was that he's got the same template as Jes. Creepy!

This post is particularly sad.

would all the projects and papers please form an orderly line. Here is the latest attempt in acquiring points towards my final grade. Will my next paper or project please step forward... (Is that a light? Am I in a tunnel?)

I found this interesting page that may influence how we may want to set up our blogs and wikis in future endeavors.

For clarifying online copyright issues, start with Creative Commons. We looked at Creative Commons Copyright in class a month ago, and some of you added a CC License to your blogs and wikis. CC is a way of explicitly declaring the rights you grant to readers and those you reserve - licensing tailored for online access. Just look around and you'll see how online writers and other content creators are using CC to facilitate distribution while protecting rights.

Everything I've checked into consistently declares that "almost everything created privately and originally after April 1, 1989 is copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not." This includes online and digital content.

But to settle matters - and register works online - consult the US Copyright Office. Two answers from their FAQ (used here under fair use)

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

Oh, brave new world that has such writers in't.

We'll be meeting f2f this week (10:00 MWF, in case you forgot) to prepare for your presentations and the final write up. Donuts. Discussions.  Considerations.

Don't panic! The bus hasn't left

Jes jumped in early (thanks Jes).  Studio Tour 2 officially starts the Week of April 17th.  My mistake: I left a tba due date for this week on the wiki.  Corrected now.

But if you'd like to follow Jes's lead and start StudioTour2, you're welcome to.  Consult the StudioTour2 page so you know which projects to visit, and to get a sense of how close and detailed 200 points is and what it entails: links to pages and posts, examples, connections back to the writer's proposal ...

Have a good achievement day.

I just finished my tour of Michael, Muriel, and Eric's blogs and wiki.

I contract for 100 points. I mean 200 because that's what it's worth now.

Monday, April 10

On the week of April 24-28 I will be at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas. So my question is, what should I worry about and/or how do I work stuff out so I don't miss anything from class. I also won't be able to post on my blog at this time either. One more thing, I would like to reserve a spot on May 1st since that's the only day I'll be able to present.

Thanks much.

Eric asked
When you say, "You can plan on closing off your project anytime after Sunday, 23 April" what does that mean?

The end of the projects will be between 24 April and 3 May: between the day we start presentations and the last day of class. The actual day is up to you. Some people are writing narratives that they might want to bring to closure just after the 24th. Others might want to continue their projects beyond the 24th - and I hope a lot of you will continue. Your blogger accounts will stay active. And if you're using a wiki on biro (Dan and Sharon), it will stay active so you can continue to work with it. You can take time between the 24th and May 3rd to put the finishing touches on things, but start to wind down on the 24th.

light at the end of the tunnel

The final rush to the end!

A reminder that we meet again f2f next week - the week of April 17th - to prepare for the final write ups and presentations. You'll also be taking a second studio tour that week.  You can plan on closing off your project anytime after Sunday, 23 April.  Presentations will take place the week of April 24 and May 1.  More info on the wiki, but I'll be revising due dates and some details next week.

My blog essay for this last week is posted now.

-Molly

I hope you're all having a glorious spring.

I had the same problems when I would write a longer post on MS Internet Explorer. That's when I started using MS word to post to blogger, but then that progam started to screw things up.

Basically, Microsoft is poop when it comes to blogging. I'd recommend using Firefox when you post, as I've never had an issue, not even a minor one. I've never used Safari, but really, if you're still using Macintosh you're either...

A. Delusional
B. Not aware of advanced technology in general
or
C. Too stubborn to admit that you joined the dark side, which was defeated a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

So what I'm trying to say is... use Firefox on a PC (even though Microsoft is still poop) and you shouldn't have any problems.

Having trouble connecting and staying connected to blogger. I've had posts dissappear on me. Anyone else have this problem?? It says, "Conenction to blogger has been lost."

Friday, April 7

So there is this blog here that just started this month. The first post starts off the way a few of us felt in class about blogging.

I tell you this because I find it humorous how fast this girl took on the blogging world and appears hooked (without being forced like we were).

She writes, "what's the big deal?" and then goes on to post for a whole week.

*Sigh* ....rookies.....

blooker award
The story of Julie Powell winning the Blooker award is all over print media and the web.

"I graduated from college with a major in fiction writing, and then I spent years and years and years just writing and not ever finishing anything and really falling into the black hole of self-loathing," says Powell, now 32.

She started a blog project; got noticed for her writing; was published by Little Brown. Other winners are listed here.

I was so engrossed in my blog I forgot all about the midterm reflection. I will shamefully accept my thirty lashings...

Monday, April 3

I have posted all the new photos and interviews of third graders to my class wiki

late. i know, but done.

Okay, new URL for the Anarchist Tea Party is in effect. The old domain no redirects to the new domain, and I couldn't be happier.

So, maybe we could update the sidebar on the daybook. The new URL is: http://www.anarchyteaparty.org

I think it's a better situation all around. Cuts down on my ego, and the .org suffix is just more appropriate.

I was able to visit my friend's classroom this morning. Interviewed 11 more students and have them posted on the blog. I will duplicate the information on the wiki also. See my project page for the URL to the blog.

Okay, that last post was a little hasty. I am changing my host and the domain name, but it will be accessible from both domains until the end of the month. And then, I don't know what the hell I'm going to do with doctorkuha.net

Sunday, April 2

The Anarchist Tea Party will be down for as much as a couple of days, while I change hosting servers. I have located GoDaddy, a brilliant hosting service that actually gives you FREE 10 MySQL databases, is only 5 dollars a month, gives you 5 gigs of space, as opposed to aPlusNet which doesn't give you ANY MySQL databases, only 500 megs of space, and is 10 dollars a month. Go figure. So I'll post again when the site is back up.

Saturday, April 1

Here is my midterm reflection. I finished it early this week so I didn't see the daybook notice to post. Sorry.
Jes

the final push

Most of the mid-term reflections have been posted (and I found a couple of others that haven't been posted; I'm assuming they're finished).  Some interesting histories are being told and connections being made.  You might want to see where others are and how they handled the reflection: what they are seeing in their work, what they are concerned with, how they connect the reflection to their work.

The final push is on.  There are two more weeks of project-writing before we meet f2f again to prepare for final presentations.  The second studio tour will take place the week of April 17th, just as we start a week of prep.  So you have some clear time to really throw yourself into your project.  I'll be visiting projects over the next week and a half, as well.  And it will be spring before we know it.
