I really hope everyone's having just a splendid day. Goodness knows that I'm not. But Evilness knows that I am. Regardless, the link to my mid-term reflection, which I just finished, and for which I am contracting for a whopping 200 points, is.... here. Here's a link to my Reflection. I had to get it done this morning 'cuz tonight I'm going swimming and hot-tubbing at a hotel for a friend's personal bridal shower. I still get all giddy and excited about going to hotels and swimming in the pools. :) Thursday, March 30
Here is my Midterm Reflection. Also, I feel the need to promote the spring musical here for those of you who don't read my random and infrequent posts on Rage Dump (which I'd imagine is most people since I don't even read Rage Dump). Everyone should come see A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It runs this Friday and Saturday, and next Friday and Saturday at 7:29. Also there is a Sunday performance on April 9th at 3:00. It's a funny show; there is tons of great dancing; I play a pimp. What more could you ask for to fill a boring Bemidji evening? reminder: mid-term reflection It's a grey day today: a good day to put on some ambient music and look back over where you started, and what you've done so far. The MidTermRelection is due Friday, 31 Mar, midnight. To make the reflection useful to you, draw on what you've done so far, comments, studio tours, and our discussion notes from last week on the Entry Point. When you've finished, post a link to it on the Daybook. Listening to Grey Day from "Divine Madness" by Madness Wednesday, March 29
Getting Rid of SPAM...and other E-mail Pests "This is a must-read for anyone who wonders why they get so much junk e-mail and what they can do about it! It is well-written and not technical." The Spamprimer is a product of Randy Cassingham, a respected online publisher who has several services of his own that he delivers to subscribers. He shares his knowledge with the public by outlining 'the basics of spam, "phishing" and other e-mail pests, how they got your address in the first place - and what to do now that you're inundated.' The Internet of Things I found a site that proves we aren't the only class exploring blogging. They are Canadians and they seem to be a bit more serious about their blogging than we are. Those crazy canucks. Friday, March 24

The problem I had with Blogger (when I changed EVERYTHING over to a wiki) resolved itself... So before you do all that extra work, just wait and try again later!! Having significant picture posting problems with Picasa and Blogger. Trying to figure out how to tansfer posts to a new publisher, or maybe them problem will correct itself. Sunday, March 19
We're back! Welcome back from break. We meet again face for face for the coming week: Mar 20 - Mar 24. Discussions, surprises, food... Be there. Details for the week at the Entry Point. Pass it on. Listening to Whippin' Piccadilly from "The Alternative Album" by Gomez Friday, March 17

I don't know what I'm more amazed about: that I paused mozart's requiem to listen to the hobbit song, or that the hobbit song was kinda catchy. but I don't know if it can ever beat Spock singing about Bilbo with groupies. last orders please Studio Tours are in and posted, done and dusted, points awarded as requested. If you haven't already, visit your visitors, and leave them comments on their studio tour wiki page, if you feel like it. I'm hoping that getting a perspective from the outside will help you see and re-see your work so far. Getting a second and third and forth pair of eyes on your work can tell you a lot about how your work is being read at large. Studio tours tell you a lot about how visitors read: what they see and what they miss, the terms they use to describe and the criteria they use to evaluate ... and that perspective can be valuable to you, both as blogger and as visitor. We meet f2f on Monday, 20 Mar. Have a good break. In the meantime, here's a movie. Saturday, March 11
The link to my Studio Tour. Kingery, Kuha, Hawkins. Good day, and good night. Spring Break is now official: Free at last, free at last. God Almighty, free at last. I have completed my first tour, posted here. Grapevine, Hodgson, and Easterling. It is very obvious that there has been a lot of work put into these projects. Greetings Spring Breakers. I have completed my Studio Tours for: Swensen McAnnany Heliman Good job guys :) Never mind... I mentioned my problem to my son, Colin and he showed me how to change the preferences.... {now hangs head in shame} Help!!! I just found out that if I go to another computer in our house, I can only READ my wiki, not EDIT it. So what happens when I get back in the third grade class next week? Part of the project is letting the students see their words 'on-line' as soon as they are done dictating to me... I seem to be running into problems wherever I turn... {pout} Friday, March 10
I finished my tours of Molly, Sandi and Jess's blogs. You are invited to click here. Or not, it's your choice! I have completed StudioTour1, in honor of Hawkins, Hahn, and Simpson. I hope you all (particularly those very specifically targeted) enjoy it. And it is right over.... here. HEre is my link to studio tours for Pemberton, Grapevine, and Hodgson: Click on Meeeee! Mr. morgan, I have also completed my blogging posts for this week: "Always learning" and "Picture Tour" - I think were their names. Thursday, March 9
reminder: studio tour 1 Break is approachig fast. Be sure to finish Studio Tour 1 before heading for warmer climes. Put a link to your studio tour wiki page on the Daybook so your colleagues know you visited, and mention on the page what you're contracting for. For you late-nighters, it's due Saturday midnight (that's an hour after Saturday, 11:00 pm), but you are allowed to post it earlier. I was also a victim of a spam blog filter's false positive. You need to follow through with the suggestions given to you. If you don’t they will shut down your blog. If you do, they will review your blog and realize their mistake. The same thing happened to me. Do you post a lot of links? That is what got me into trouble, but once my blog was reviewed, I was promised that I would be off the radar of the spam blog filter for good. This is the message I recieved when trying to log into my blog tonight. **WARNING!-This blog has been locked by Blogger's spam-prevention robots. You will not be able to publish your posts, but you will be able to save them as drafts. Save your post as a draft or click *here* for more about what's going on and how to get your blog unlocked.** To unlock it you need to follow the link and pop in your e-mail address and a word verification. Apparently blogger will have an individual look over my blog and reinstate it. Interesting. Anybody know how they decide what spam blog is? Please announce to your classes The "iMovie Film Festival" has officially returned as the "Beaver Film Festival"! The event will be held on Student Achievement Day - April 12th. Well........ after spending all morning re-formatting my scans of all the children's written work... moving the pictures I've taken so far, moving the interviews..... Creating a new wiki page for the project... THEN Blogger started working again!!!! AARRGHH!!! I'm too old for this! I give up. My Third Grade Blog is now a Wiki...... I have transferred the interviews, pictures, and scans of written work to my class Wiki...under, are you ready for this? Third Grade Project... Such an original name! Ask me how I feel about Blogger... go ahead, ask me! I am having trouble accessing the blog I created for the third graders. I may have to transfer things to a Wiki.... Sunday, March 5

Studio Tour 1 For this week, it's Studio Tour 1. This is a chance to give each other feedback on what you see happening: a chance to get fresh eyes on your project. You decide on how many points to write for: I'll assign what you decide on. Deadline for the tour is midnight, 11 March, but you can always finish early. Tourees are looking forward to feedback. Those who are visiting Sharon Simpson's project should follow the link to her project page and email her for the url to the project itself. Post your comments on all three projects to a single page on your WikiHome page (title it /StudioTour1). When you're done with all three tours, post a note on the Daybook, linking to your comments. Closing Time Congrats on finishing SeedTheThird. I'll be looking things over this week - and there is a lot to look over. You've been one very active smartmob. If I haven't emailed you about your contributions already, I will this week. I'll check the list of topics you kept during the week to record points, but the interesting side of the work is how you developed the threads and documents. Pat yourself on the collective back: You've made some real inroads and have developed a lot of material for us all to work with further. JessicaHodgson made the last contribution at 11:58 am on the topic, OffTheCuffBlogging. Bonus over-achiever points. Friday, March 3
I noticed quite a few changes on the Entry Point wiki. I've got to say, I think it makes the wiki much easier to navigate! Mr. Kuha, I would like to blow rasberries at you and let you know that I too have traveled to your wiki. Regretably the reasons on Micheal's list (though not the part about his blog being tea or the part about being disappointed that your wiki was not about tea) seem to also meld into a list for me. I did though leave you something on your wiki last night. This post is to let you know that you are not alone in feeling a lack of feedback. I also feel like no one is watching, but in the immortal words of someone I can't remember the name of (and mind you it's not a direct quote) We should do these things for ourselves, not for others... It didn't help me either, but I thought that I'd try. Plus Micheal has another good point we are destined to get feedback when the assignment begins. Thursday, March 2
I've been there at least 4 times now Mr. Kuha. I haven't added anything because I'm
Just breath man - and don't worry. Dr. Morgan is going to force us to comment on each others blog/wiki as an assignment so I'm sure you will receive feedback shortly. So... what kind of cheese would you like? (insert sarcasm) So I couldn't help but notice, that not a single person, with the very notable exception of Sharon, from this class has taken the time to stop by my project site for this class. Not a single one. Nobody. I've posted comments on many of your blogs, added my thoughts, and given the effort. And nobody has reciprocated in kind to stop by my site, take a look around, and add even so much as a line of text to it. I don't ask for much. A comment here, a question there, a criticism over yonder. And so I've thought that maybe the reason is that many of you don't think that Anarchism is your thing. I'll let you in on a little secret: it doesn't have to be for you to engage in a discourse about it, learn about it, argue against it, ask questions about it. And I have a whole section devoted to news commentary, which doesn't even necessarily need any sort of specific focus on Anarchy. And so, I'm going to leave a little link here, for all of you to click on. I expect you to do it. The Anarchist Tea Party Wednesday, March 1
Will you offer different ways to make bonus points? I always seem to be working when they are offered, and I think I may need some bonus points. SeedTheThird deadline SeedTheThird is going so well, let's take it until Saturday, noon, to make five posts. There are still bonus points to be earned for being the last to post before or at 12:00 noon, Saturday. I'll post the next exercise - StudioTour1 - about noon on Saturday. We can run that exercise up until Saturday, 11 Mar - although you can always finish earlier writing the wiki continues Breakthroughs! I can see that, collectively, you've devised a way of organizing your work on the wiki pages. This one on HowTheWikiChangesWriting - I propose refactoring by subtitles in relation to the above bullets. Erase the ones you refactor and add more you feel need addressing. We are done refactoring when the bullets are used up. Use the threads to work out the topics in more depth. To help us refactor using our threads we should put what subtitle bullet we are working on at the top in bold. And on HowBloggingChangesWriting: this restructuring of the threads to make them more accessible - There are many different ways to blog, and in return, many different interpretations of blogs. It is true that blogging has changed writing, but analyzing it completely would almost be impossible. One thing I think we can all agree with is that blogging has made writing more timely. We can now read something that has been written and published within the same 10 minutes. Blogging has also brought together communities of writers to support (or criticize) during the writing process. In addition, blogging may have made writing shorter, because one does not have to explain every aspect or every word because links can provide those. [...] here are some threads that I have collected from this one long thread. I tried to compile everything that had to do with these headings in one place so that conversations about specific topics could happen. Feel free to change or even roll the page back. I just thought this might be a more precise way to talk about such a broad issue.followed by a list of topics that sprung up in discussion. And someone started TheCollectiveNotebook. It warms my compositional heart to see you take control of the text this way. It also looks like you're also bringing different purposes into the discussion, seeing that, for instance, the way writing changes in the new media depends on the purpose of the wiki (Wikipedia cf Rose Coloured Glasses and cf Adventures in Wikiland). The kickback, of course, is to consider how writing wikis and weblogs changes the branch of society doing the writing: how a family changes when they write a common blog or wiki; how collegial interaction changes when scholars use a wiki to collaborate; how student roles, identities, and interactions change when students write a common blog or wiki.... Or not. There's a lot of participation going on, and plenty of time to do more. Listening to Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3 from "Reasons To Be Cheerful (With Blockheads)" by Ian Dury |
