Okay, I'm sorry if this is the second time this message is posted. (For some reason, I can't view the Daybook right now, so I don't know if something I wrote earlier today ever got posted.) I just wanted to let Dr. Morgan know that I was out of town all weekend and away from a computer and didn't have the opportunity to start on the SeedtheThird assignment 'til today. That's all! Thanks. Action on Writing the Wiki More and more of you are adding to WritingTheWiki/SeedTheThird and the threads are starting to develop on both main pages. The exercise runs through midnight, Fri, 3 Mar, and timeliness counts. Saturday, February 25

Writing the Wiki Exercise for the Week As promised, there's a WritingTheWiki exercise for this week, starting today, Fri 23 Feb, and running through midnight, Fri, 3 Mar. WritingTheWiki/SeedTheThird. 200 points involved. Timeliness counts, so better check it out right away. Keep up on your projects over the week, as well. Next Friday: Watch for the first studio tour. Questions? Post them here or email me. Thursday, February 23
lemon Email me right away with more details about what's up. all Please use identifiable names when you post to the Daybook. Wednesday, February 22
My blog has been blocked because blogger thinks it is a spam blog. So, I can't make any posts until I can get this figured out. Dr. Morgan, I have begun interviewing students for my project. Notes regarding my progress will be kept on my class wiki under ProjectNotes. Tuesday, February 21
Today in blogs and wikis I've been looking over the project list to see how things are progressing. What's interesting is how you're all pushing the blog and wiki media into new subject areas and approaches. A sample: Anarchist Tea Party. Eric Kuha. The table is set - and the wiki well-designed for growth. Eric has the field of discussion roughed out with lots of places to enter and topics to develop. It's an open wiki: Just click Edit and go. Senioritis. Live the ups and downs of Muriel's last semester at BSU: the joys, the disappointments, the delays, the grad plans, the naps... She's posting frequently so the story keeps moving forward. Around the World in 60 Days. Sandi Pemberton. Morgan and Newt are in York, Maine, making the familiar look strange: "A few homes are tall with many windows, like a faerie hotel, but there is a walkway in front of some of the windows closest to the roof. How strange! I will have to make inquiries about these homes tomorrow." Absolute Tea. Mike Heilman. Recall what Blood said about blogging for notoriety? Absolute Tea is sort of blogging as a freelancer. It's a niche blog that will develop a regular group of readers as it progresses. The layout - sidebar, design, links, rss feed (especially the rss feed) - are set up for return visits. By the way, the more links to a blog, the more it gets found and read. Share the links. Visit your colleagues. Comment. Listening to Geoffrey Chaucer podcast of "In Our Time" by BBC Radio 4 Monday, February 20
This past week has been a horror. 'nough said. Here, finally, is the link to my project blog, Mental Disorderd. Ran into this article about the legal aspects of blogging. The sections on Student Blogging is particularly interesting...quoting court decisions, etc. Sunday, February 19
Dr. Morgan, I have put up a first 'post' on my Third Grade Blog Project... It is a test to see how the format worked. I will begin interviewing the students on Wednesday of this week. Saturday, February 18
Do you use a router as a firewall? Our home network is firewalled through our router, and it appears in networked places as a gateway. If you do, I would suggest using an alternate method ex: Norton Internet Security, or enabling Windows XP firewall in tandem. It may be nothing more than an unchecked box in the router settings, but better safe than sorry. Friday, February 17
This news story from WCCO makes me wonder about my blogging project with third graders. Any suggestions? Thursday, February 16
updates 1. Projects have started and most are off and running! I've been adding them to the blogroll as they start up, for your reading pleasure - and they are worth a visit. A number of bloggers are requesting feedback and participation: Help them out when you get a chance. 2. There are still a couple of last-minute revisions due Friday, but everyone should be working by Saturday. 3. Sandi, Molly, and Mike K: Please post urls to your new project blogs to the Daybook so can add them to the blogroll. 4. I'm well under the weather so I will not be in for office hours Friday, 17 Feb. Questions: Email me. 5. Vloggers in the News: The Chronicle of Higher Education has a story on Drew Zandonella-Stannard, a blogger (English major) at Smith College, who also posts videos: vlogging. Some of Ms. Zandonella-Stannard's videos are also available on her personal blog, which she started in 2002. The blog chronicles her musings, tribulations, and jovial moments through words, pictures, and videos (http://drewdrawn.blogspot.com). The blog gets about 50 hits a day, she says.Worth a look. I've started my new blog for my project and the color is vomit inducing. That will have to be fixed, but here it is. Major Daze Monday, February 13
here is my new blog...(I think I may be addicted to this, has anyone else wondered if there's a way to chop this page up and snort it?) I just enabled comment moderation on jones poems and I'm wondering if it's ethical to not post certain comments if they don't really relate to my topic. Sometime people post weird or random things (often my grandmother does), and I'd really like to avoid having non-poetry discussions on my page. At the very least, I'd like to have only non-poetry discussion on my blog that stem from the subject matter in a poem. What do you guys think about comment moderation? Here's my revised project proposal. Please let me know if there is more that needs to be changed. Thanks, Gin. Sunday, February 12
I sit praying that there is water in the bottom of the pool...It's a big pool. Anyways here's the link to Addiction: It's Many Faces and Facts my revised project proposal. more bad press for wikis Penn State decides against supporting wiki project. Wikis are having a hard time finding a place in the public forum. Saturday, February 11
Okay, I've reworked my proposal. It's much more detailed, tons more systematic, a little more boring (in a way), and oodles more informational. And this is it. And in case you forgot: The After Anarchy Tea Party Wiki Alright, I changed my mind from my initial idea, but I think this will be better as I designed to to revolve around me (because the world doesn't.) Here you go. Senioritis...with six hours to spare. Michael Heilman Project Proposal. It's done. Go here. Do we get a break or do we still have to blog over spring break? I didn't know how to calculate this aspect so I assumed we will be worked to nausea and my numbers reflect that. Good Night. Friday, February 10
My proposal for my project blog entitled I Married You at Twenty-Two is ready and waiting for an overview and look-see. ;) Project Proposal Reminder: Post a link to the Daybook When your proposal is complete, post a link to it on the Daybook: That's the only way I'll know you're ready. I'll review them over the weekend and on Monday will either approve or ask for revisions. I like the look of the drafts I peeked at. Interesting projects. Lots of work. I checked out the Blurbsite. It really seems like a good idea, not to mention a lot of fun. It seems to be a better deal than most of the self-publishing houses offer. I can't wait to give it a try! make that magic move to print! A colleague on a mail list mentioned an online printing service that is handling weblogs: Blurb Home. If you want to move your blog to paper, this is one way of going. Wednesday, February 8
I followed the link to the westwood site, looked around and was amazed! Also checked out several of the links on the page including this Cool Cat Teacher Blog. This teacher is so absolutely amazed by:
what i learned in school today was web 2.0 (for for sharon, tiffany, sue, mainly) Westwood HS is using a wiki pretty extensively for computer science and writing. There's an entry point at westwood ? Web 2.0 but you might want to look around the space. They're not just looking a wikis but the broader range of web 2.0 media that are defining a new literacy. Fun terms to know and tell from Westwood's Intro Computer Science, grade 10 and 11 * blogosphere (you know this one) * wiki pages (you know this one, too) * social bookmarking (see del.icio.us) * RSS Feed (covered in Castro book) * Podcasting * folksonomy (see del.icio.us again) All of these - and more - will be covered in ENGL 3930/5930: Elements of E-Rhetoric, fall, 2006. /blurb Hey, kid. wiki down Tues am It looks like the Blogs and WIkis wiki is down for a while this morning. I'll try to have it up again by noon. Monday, February 6
When you go to post something on Blogger, there is a little notice at the top about a 'scheduled' outage tonight. If you go to the 'learn more', there is quite a bit of information about all the trouble they have been having the past few days. Sunday, February 5
I followed your directions, Froyd, and now have a pristine copy of my previous 'blogroll' saved!!! Thanks again! a handy bit of advice that I got to Sharon too late, but may help in the future for all you blogger users in the event of your template losing all of your sidebar info... the next time this happens(if there is one) rather than having to put in your links one by one....go to google and search for the title of your blog. when your result comes up, there should be a link that says "cached" that you can click next to green text that shows the exact link to the page. that's a older version of your page that google has stored. You can click that and then for IE go to the "view" menu, and then click source, to look at the HTML, and from there cut and paste the code for your links that are located in there. for firefox, it's the "View" menu and then "page source". and cut 'n paste. /comfort Sharon It'll be ok... Blogger has it's ups and downs, like any other hosting site. I have faith it shall return to full strength very soon! Blogger is working, sort of. My template is all screwed up...lost all my links, too. Is this what we can expect from now on? Saturday, February 4
Hey, sorry to ask this, but I had a little trouble getting back up to Bemidji on Friday due to road conditions(which I know is my fault) Still, I am struggling to catch up on the Wiki assignments and would appreciate if someone can explain what was asked of our class for Wednesday and Friday in simple, idiot proof term; because I don't understand the directions point blank. Please help me out if you could by giving me your understanding of it. Thank you! Much Appreciation! Friday, February 3
Interested in Campus Technology? Since you all are in a class heavily involving computers and such, I thought you might like to know that your Student Senate has established a subcommittee for academic technology issues. It's open to all students. If you are a geek like me and interested in giving your input as to what happens aroud here technologically, this group might be for you. Contact me via email bernechristiansen@gmail.com, and I can get you more info and put you in touch with the Senator heading the committee. /end shameless plug Era Ends: Western Union Stops Sending Telegrams BAD NEWS FOR WU STOP GOOD NEWS FOR SPRINT STOP TXTNG STOP IM STOP EMAIL STOP MAYBE COPULA BACK IN FASHION SOON STOP GOTTA RUN MUST STOP |
