OH MY GOODNESS! Okay, so I get a lil' bored working down here at Computer Support. . .so I have some time to play around with my blog(s). I stumbled upon this AMAZING design site (thanks to Andi) and changed the look of both my personal blog and my project blog. I strongly encourage all of you to visit Maystar Designs if you'd like to make over your blog. I was told a long time ago that in order to be inspired to write a lot, you need both a journal and a pen that you adore. . .so, I think maybe the equivalent for blogs is an unique writing space. Check them out. . .for real. Thanks Dr. Morgan for that entry on the enlightened dean who has pointed out that blogs can be scholarly. How encouraging to know that blogs on seriours issues enacts scholarly activities of "thoughtful and carefully reasoned commentary". so I don't have to strive for some humor in my blog. Oh yes! Go ahead and pass it on to our dean. Monday, March 29
blog updating is like the wind... for a while it will blow strong and hard. Other times, like a summer rainbow, the blog will mysteriously show its pot of gold a few times a year. But the wealth you may gain Erin, Will be worth the hike towards the end... The peppergreen contingent Sunday, March 28
Ok, folks, just so you all know...I realize that you read my blog like a crack addict snorts cocaine, and unfortunately for you and the addict, the law has come down. I neglected to renew my domain name 2 days ago(I thought I had until the end of the month, and usually people are banging on my mailbox trying to get me to renew with them), and as such the site is temp down. It'll be back up fo sho' on Monday. my hosting service is closed on sunday....jerks. Sean- I click on the link I have set up on my blog to read your blog, and it won't work! It keeps taking me to a serach engine that says, "Welcome to froyd.net." Has anyone else had a problem with this? Help! Saturday, March 27
San Antonio Update I gave a conference presentation Friday with three colleagues (from Florida, Texas, and Colorado State) at the CCCC conference, which is the primary conference in the field of writing and rhetoric: The Big One. Our work is online if you want to see what we talked about. I showed the class wiki for a minute or two. The presentation went well: It was well attended, no technical snafus, and got people talking. But I'm really glad it's over. Culture Cat Clancy Ratliff was there. I attended her presentation earlier in the day (Barb, Mary and anyone else interested in blogging and gender might want to have a look at what she's working on), and we spoke for a few minutes after the session. Then there was food. And food. And some more food. Jamie and film junkies might be interested in the The Alamo premier gala stuff that's going on tonight just around the corner from the hotel. They also have an Alamo blog running. I haven't spotted anyone famous, but I probably wouldn't recognize them anyway. I won't be attending the premier party, of course. I'll be in the hotel room browsing academic journals and planning next year's CCCC proposal. But I just wanted to let you know what the jet-set get up to in spring. Friday, March 26
response to midterm reflections and grades Greetings from San Antonio, TX. I have only a few minutes before a conference presentations, but here's an update. I'll be responding to mid term reflections starting Tuesday, Mar 30 - although I may be able to read a few over the week end. You get the points you asked for: 25, 50 , 75, 100. The reflections I've read so far are interesting and look like they're valuable to the writers. For info on course grades, refer to the syllabus. If you have questions about your grade so far, stop by my office and we'll talk. I'll be back on campus starting Wednesday. My general advice is this: Focus on learning and the grade will follow. Gotta go. - Thursday, March 25
Can I blog a single IP address from my blog? I can block them from my Bravenet services, my photo album and guestbook, but not my blog... Anybody know what I can do? I'm going to be blocking an IP address, but I'm not exactly sure who it is, I'm just suspiscious as to who it is. So if I'm blocking anyone that's in the class or you know who it is and it isn't a person that should be blocked, please, let me know. Post something to the daybook or something. Wednesday, March 24
Where and when do we get our grades for the midterm reflection? And is there any way to get an idea of the grade we have for class? I'm more than curious... April...this happened to me too, when it says that, click to the entry point, and then back down through your page again. Don't use the back button... And you might want to refresh the entry point page when you get there too... That should help...at least it did for me. Tuesday, March 23
?rovalf eht truh reve tib a nwod looc gnihtemos gnittel sah nehw tub ,etal elttil a...dehsinif si noitcelfer yM My reflection is finished...a little late, but when has letting something cool down a bit ever hurt the flavor? my wiki won't let me post to it. it says "Editing not allowed: Blogs and Wiki is read-only." I put in my name and typed in editme, but it won't let me post. anyone know what to do? i've made a node titled MidtermReflection twice now and it keeps disappearing. this happened on my ocean wiki too. could it be my computer? My reflection is done, I just need to paste it in. help! Whatever, I'm so sick of this. I created RefecTions and posted it there and went back and it was gone, but it's in the "changes" of the wiki, so there's proof. I'll see if this link works, Here is my reflection. Not very insightful, mostly because I spent three hours trrying to figure out how to get an "A." And, I know I didn't. While I appreciate personal blogs, I found out, in this class, I had very little of interest happen in my life, even less of which others would want to read. As a result, I decided to rededicate my blog and, with the permission of Dr. Morgan, am posting it under the emeritus section. You can take a look at it here I really feel like I learned something from this assignment. Well, maybe I just sorted out some scattered thoughts. What's with all of us turning this in so early? It's an epidemic ... how exciting ... Mirror mirror on the wall I'm impressed: MidtermReflections are already coming in, and there's still more than 12 hours to go before the midnight deadline. Keep 'em coming. Monday, March 22
Here. Take it. I don't wanna deal with it anymore. Hey, and it's even early. That's a first for me. Enjoy it. *Wipes sweat off of forehead* Wow. So nice to be done. Thursday, March 18
Wednesday, March 17
Okay, Here is number three...Desiree Jorgensen. I am done, and with 15 minutes before I have to go to class. I knew I could do it!!! Please, I hope never to procrastinate this badly...AGAIN! I'm done, but I've forgotten how to cut links in a blog, the wiki has rubbed off on me. Well, let's see if I can do this ? Here's number two...Erin Eliason. My leg is starting to fall asleep. **One left and I have class in thrity minutes...YAY!!!!** Tuesday, March 16
All done! Now off to bed because I have to get up at an obscenely early hour tomorrow. I don't think college students should ever have to get up before 10 a.m. --sigh-- All will be well soon enough! Done! My first assignment done on time in this class. Whew. It feels good... Now if only the laundry would do itself. Monday, March 15
This has nothing at all to do with class, buuut if you don't have anything to do a week from tomorrow, Tuesday, March 23rd from 7:00-10:00PM, I'm holding the second annual spring open mic night in the Beaux Arts Ballroom. You guys are writers, so I figured there must be some poets in the class, and I'd love to hear some poetry read! I'm sure there's also some musicians, and maybe even some comics?! Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know. If you'd like to pre-sign-up to guarantee a spot there's a sheet outside the HUPB room (across from the union desk), or else it'd be awesome to see your beautiful shining faces there to admire the talents of your fellow Beavers! When bloggers meet via CultureCat In keeping with our latest reading - Navigating the Blog Universe - you might be interested in reading how it went when Krista and Clancy met It's very odd to have the physical selves and the constructed, blogger selves collide. I was aware of meeting an actual someone who previously been only virtual to me -- but I was also equally aware of someone meeting two different parts of myself, the physical self and the blogger self. Both are true representations of me, but also entirely separate. Or perhaps the beer was just making me think too much that night. Have a look at the comments, too. (And congrats on the mid-term, Clancy.) Sunday, March 14
Donuts! Score. Raised glazed, please. Ha. The sacrifices we have to make for school. *Sigh* It's terrible. Really, it is. *Ponders* Actually, I do have to go to the dentist on Wednesday. But turn down anything with sugar in it? Not going to happen. I'm excited for class. Everybody better show up. We're back Midterm week. We're back to meeting f2f for the week of Mar 15 - 19 for discussion, reflection, and - ("And cake?" "Well, maybe donuts on Friday.") I've been touring sites this week - especially Sunday - and am glad to see that everyone's project is moving along apace, and that most of you are also posting to your personal blogs regularly. Impressive. The midterm week goes quickly and there's a lot to do (discussion, tours, more discussion), so if you want to prepare, you can check the agenda on the Entry Point. The first studio tour will be due Wednesday, classtime. If you want to get an early start on it, you're welcome to do so. See you 10:00 Monday. Saturday, March 13
Next time God calls you, tell him to stop calling collect. Its a pain. And also, tell him that we want harsher penalties for parole violators.... uh... and world peace. Friday, March 12
Amy's Diary: Whose handwriting looks like that in the third grade? Also, the writing changes style within the same entries (Cf. the differences between the y's and d's in the first entry.) Hey Sean, I think Amy's diary is really nice. But since Sean has never experienced walking to school TEN MILES. UPHILL. BOTH WAYS, he wouldn't understand her feelings, neither do I. Early blogging Tedium? You don't know for tedium! In the old days, we didn't have blogs, we had dairys. And we had to write by hand. On paper. With pencils. That broke. And we had to walk to school. Ten miles. Uphill. Both ways. So, Amy found her 3rd grade dairy and put it on the web, "narrated by experts." 'til Monday - Thursday, March 11
Sara caught my language oopsie... yes, I am working with Sara on our blog. So I'm not always the most eloquent person in the world! I'm working on that! Oh... just to let everyone know because you'll probably be reading about it a lot on my blog (and is the reason why I have been absent this whole week from writing because of making plans)... I'm getting married. :) Yeah, spring break is getting kind of tedious. And Simon, I talked to God last night, and I'm not certain but in an afterthought He seemd to add "Oy! tell Simon that I said 'Neener Neener!'" But I can't be sure, I was tired. Wednesday, March 10
Deh... spring break is boring. All I do is read and play video games and work and feel like I'm forgetting something. Actually, thats a lot like regular life. God is making fun of me again... Tuesday, March 9
Alicia isn't really working ON me, she is just working with me on our project. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, feel free to email yoga_wiki@happyhippie.com with your ideas. Hope everyone's break is going well. I spent the first three days in the cities, and now I am hauling butt on my homework! Sorry about being a little behind... I didn't check this before I left on Friday, and then I was gone from any sort of computer communication for the weekend. I am out-of-town for the week, but I have computer access. I will be working on Sara and my project... I know my work has been sparse, but I'll make it all up this week... Finally! A week to think and actually get caught up! Thanks for your patience... Sure enough, I leave BSU and right now I'm sitting in a computer lab at SCSU. Ha. I thought I'd get away.. But I never will... Damn the call of the wild college life... Computer labs, homework... One just can't control it.... Monday, March 8
aah, finally i'm leaving bemidji (and technology) i'm going to my sister's to sleep and play gamecube. ciao- Sunday, March 7
Does that make us elite? Y'know...like the Green Berets, Quebecois, or the Super Mario Bros.? Cause...we could like fight evil and stuff. Or BECOME evil...oh wait. I'm a conservative AND I work on a PC! Its too late for me, I'm evil already! Save yourselves! How popular is blogging? Not so much. While the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 44% of the adult American Internet uses contributed something online, only 3% of Internet users reported writing a blog. That puts the numbers in perspective. Friday, March 5
Have a good Spring Break everyone! I'll be staying around here in Bemidji. Anyone else staying around here and wants something to do, I invite you to the powwow at the new high school. My niece is relinquishing her title as Bemidji Area Schools Princess. So I'll be there all day dancing in my dance outfit and having a good time. Oh yeah it's tomorrow, such short notice I know! Later Starting Sunday I'm off to bask in all the white static life has to offer. I'll miss my house (and all of you, of course) but it just never makes me sad to leave Bemidji for an extended period of time. It makes me the opposite of happy, actually...ecstatic, almost. Have a good break everyone! Aaawww... Am I the only person that doesn't want to go on break? *Sniffs* I'm gonna miss you all... Still... But woo-hoo for class meeting again. It'll be a lot of fun. Leave? As in leave BEMIDJI? Whoa. There's no other world out there! you can't make me believe it! THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE!!! CONSTANT WHITE STATIC AS FAR AS YOU CAN SEE!!! You'll fall of the edge of the world! Whoa. Yeah, I'm staying here, with my pills and happy thoughts. Break! It's snowing, and Spring break is starting - not one day too soon. Nearly done with the RespondingToNavigating responses. They're really interesting and so I'm taking my time with each of them. If you're leaving for the week, how about posting something here to let everyone know? If you're staying around, watch for each other. See everyone on Monday, 15 March. Wednesday, March 3
Closing in on break I've been responding to RespondingToNavigating assignments this week and hope to respond to all by Friday. Hang in there: it's been a busy week. Break is coming - and I'll be reading leisurely through the projects over break, and may be sending you some informal comments. If you get the chance, you might want to continue working on your projects; sometimes posting from a new location or new circumstances puts a new spin on things. To evaluate how your project is coming along, check your ProjectProposal to see where you contracted to be by 15 March: that's your first touchstone. I mentioned this before, but a regular, steady pace seems to be more profitable in developing a project than long pauses between sprints. Write a page every day, and in a year you have a book. We'll meet starting Monday, 15 March, usual time and place, for the week, to catch up on things, compare notes, and do some mid-term reflection. You'll be doing your first studio tours that week, as well. But for now, keep pushing forward. Tuesday, March 2
Monday, March 1
See, the problem isn't in how to use them, the problem is trying to get my intelligence to lower enough to allow me to use something designed for the idiotic masses. 's tough, but I find if I watch a pauly shore movie, it brings it right down. *COUGH*COUGH*That's cute, Sean, but don't get frustrated just because you can't figure out how to use them. Someday we'll teach you, someday. *COUGH*HACK*LOOGIE*COUGH* Staging server up and down and up and... The CAL Staging server, which houses the Daybook, has been up and down owing to power failures and network outages in Hagg Sauer. I hope to have it stable by Wednesday, but expect delays when posting to or accessing the Daybook. If it doesn't work once, try again later. This doesn't affect any other blogs; just the Daybook. I'll be replacing the server with another one over break. That is all... Am I the only one who has noticed this. The link from the class to the daybook is frozen. I have been trying this for half an hour but in vain. So now I have used a short cut through my weblog. I think I'm the last one to turn in the assignment late! Shame on me! Oh well better late than never. Nuts to a time machine, I'll just use the Butterfly Effect and make myself forget seeing that stupid movie. Although, going back to elementary school and letting myself be put in a private school might be fun... Then I wouldn't have gone to the WORST HIGHSCHOOL IN MICHIGAN, and maybe got a decent edumakashun. Ooooh! Me, too! I'm going to do it, though, under the guise of psychic ability.. Oh yeah.. Madam Cleo, watch out! |
