Faith,
you will be suprised how many of us you may see at the conference. Renee, Caroline, and myself are three of the interns for this years week of happiness. I have heard that every space has been full for at least 3 weeks. With the first strike for filling spaces coming from the BSU itself, I bet a large portion came from campus.

Does this mean I get to be your humble servent for the duration of events? I am helping in fiction. What area did you designate into?

Oh yeh, starting monday I will be back on campus for the rest of the summer (minus weddings and sudden overnight urges to catch Twins baseball games in person). I only have classes on thurs. and fri. the first session. So I will be around if anyone wants to talk shop.

chow ya'll...

I forgot, are any of you participating in the Northwoods Writers conference?

I feel foolish about how happy I am to see some of you still checking in! I usually check every day too. I had just deleted a bunch of really good links to articles that I wanted to post, but didn't. I thought everyone was out chasing hummer's of different sort's. I hope the summer break will be good to all of us.

hi,hi,hi... i am here, who said i am disappeared? >_<
Don, r u there, have u seen my post on ur blog?
Thank you, Karl, i have seen a humming bird the other day standing and drinking on Renee's feeder. what a pretty bird! it's a pity i haven't see how it hovers and stays in air to get honey from flowers.Anyway, this is the beginning of summer, i have patience to wait. :)

Hi everyone,

Jeff, your right. Habits are hard to break. Don, Haven't seen Jing since the last class. But I was thinking about her this weekend. We had a small fleury of Humming Birds outside of our cabin (near Pine River) this weekend. Tried to get some pictures of them, but the little guys are pretty fast!

Saturday, May 24

I check this site out every day, Don. It's habit now. I'm glad I was in Canada on Sunday night, cause I would have been looking for an assignment.

Friday, May 23

It's good to see that someone still drops by and looks in. I'm trying to blog a little and keep touch with anyone still out there. Has anyone seen Jing? Keep the faith, Faith. Thanks for staying around, MCM.

I think the New York Times is like every other newspaper in trying to make $ writing to a broad audiance. It wasn't so long ago that email was quirky, wierd, new age ...or that the only people that worked with computers were techno geeks. In a few short years what was wierd is mainstream, by gosh by golly, we even have up here in the far north! Having worked in a large factory that was trying to come online into the computer generation and to educate their workers and investing tremendous amount of capital in the process, I can see that the wikki would have been a big help to (the lowly peon's) out on the floor of the factory. All joking aside, if mainstream media is writing about wikki, someone in the business world will sniff it out.

Businesses find wikis

A NY Times article casts wikis as "quirky," and reports that business is "toying" with them.

I'm of two minds about this: the more wikis are characterized as quirky and using them considered toying, the more distance business and marketing will give them. On the other hand... there is no other hand.

Hey ya'll! I just had to share a comment I rec'd on my final report on my project blog from Dr. Emily Hegarty of Nassau Community College in NY. She has a very interesting blog as well--check it out.

I just found this project and I''m so glad. I just tried a class weblog and it was pretty much a disaster, so I''m probably going to start cribbing some of your methods here Just so you know all this work was interesting and useful to someone, i.e., me. Thanks.

Final Report is finished. Have a good summer.

my final reflection

peace out writers

Hi all -

That article I had intended on writing? Well, here's a (very) rough draft which will be cleaned up before submission, just wanted to make sure you all could take a look, if you like. (It obviously needs some editing which will be done when I lay it out, I just wanted to compose it on the blog to keep with the style of writing in my blog.) Please use this and the blog entry below it (my presentation) as my final reflections.

Thanks, and hope everyone has a good summer!

My final reflection is finished. And with it the semester closes for me...

I have finished my project write up. Enjoy.

yet another reminder, some notes, and a thanks

Final project write ups are due midnight, thursday 15 May. Post a link to your report here. I'll be able to send only a quick comment. If you'd like to go over things in more detail, we can meet f2f in the fall.

The Daybook, the course wiki, and your own wikis will remain up and running. Feel free to continue to use them. I'll be rearranging and updating the course wiki during the summer, but I won't be deleting any thing. We'll use the same wiki for the course in spring, 2004.

The final reports I've looked at so far, the presentations, and everything else I've seen and read tell me that by any measure this was one hell of a good class for all concerned.

good summer -

Wednesday, May 7

I just wanted to say a huge Thank You to the Lab Angel that deleted the disgusting shout outs on the Femina Mosaic. I was so distressed because I am finally getting some participation and that would have definitely impacted that! So who ever helped the F.M., we all appreciate it!

Jing's.

Home rolled wikis

As I mentioned in class, VoodooPad is a notepad that works like a wiki, but runs on your local computer. Free trial. Costs $10.00 to register. It's for Mac OS X only.

There must be a similar application on the Windows side. If anyone finds one, let us know.

This is Caroline's blog and my Wiki

Here is my final reflection (or at least what I will be talking about in class) for your viewing pleasure, in both wiki and blog form!

Interesting.

PS everyone may need to go check and make sure their Archives are still up - they have been doing goofy stuff in the background and I've had to republish them a few times this week already.

Friday, May 2

What a week, eh>

Really good presentions all week. I'm both intrigued and impressed by what everyone's done this semester - and with the insight and understanding everyone has developed from what they've done. Looking forward to the rest of the presentions.

And thanks to Jeff and Faith for posting a couple recent Blogs In The News pieces: the William Gibson piece from Jeff, and the PBS story from Faith.

More later.

Here's some interesting stuff from a guy who wrote a pretty interesting book called Pattern Recognition.

Go here: Project Outline.
