I figured with the deadline approaching, blogger would have crashed today... My Response to Blood's comments on e-mail use as a weblog advertisement is available for the worlds scrutiny. Peppergreen Last Call: Assignment: Responding to Blood The writing assigment - a commentary/response: Responding to Blood is due Friday, 28 Feb, midnight. [cross posted to the Calendar] Thursday, February 27

Morgan's Log has Moved Morgan's Log has a new home. I'll be posting more and more to this blog space. Second Call: Assignment: Responding to Blood The writing assigment - a commentary/response: Responding to Blood is due Friday, 28 Feb, midnight. During the week, I'll be touring more blogs and wikis and sending comments via email. Take some time to cruise. There are some interesting things going on out there. [cross posted to the Calendar] Monday, February 24
There will be a presentation at the Crying Wolf room from 6-9 on Tuesday the 25th on the Bering Strait School District. They are looking for candidates for Principle, Sec. Ed. (Math, Science, Lang. Arts, Voc. Ed., El. Ed., SPED & Counseling. Their advertisement I am looking at says that teaching couples are welcome. You can call 320-532-3971 or email Tom Briscoe at tomb_55@yahoo.com to schedule in advance for an interview. It is the first time my husband showed any interest in traveling, when I showed him this advertisement, tough luck for him I am not a teacher! Sunday, February 23
I found an interesting site today, especially for those of us working with WIKIS. It had a very useful set of explanations for beginners in learning about wikis. Check out StonehengeWiki. We've covered most of this, but it made things clearer for me and I think it would be useful if we are trying to explain WIKI to other new users. Some others of you may find the subject interesting, as well. Final call for project notification Check the blog roll on this page. If your name/project does not appear either under Blog Projects or Wiki Projects, email me right away with the address of the blog, or the request for the wiki. Don't get behind. Stay ahead of the pain. Assignment: Responding to Blood As promised, here's a writing assigment - a commentary/response: Responding to Blood. Due Friday, 28 Feb, midnight. During the week, I'll be touring more blogs and wikis and sending comments via email. Take some time to cruise. There are some interesting things going on out there. Coming Sunday - as promised... I'll assign a reading and response on Sunday evening 23 Feb, due posted to your blog or the class wiki by Friday evening 28 Feb.... Watch this space. Thursday, February 20
yesterday, i couldn't work on my blog. did Evan William begin to put their blog-hosting service-- Blog*Spot, on the network of server computers Google operates? Someone, I believe it was Faith, asked what the effect of Google buying Blogger will be. I am not sure of the overall effect, but it has already effected my little old blog. Through the us of a tracking tool (thanks Joshua Murray) I can see who has visited my blog, and how they got there. Well, one young man from Penn State searched Google for the Psychology of Michael Jordan. It turns out my Blog used those words in a single post, and viola! My blog was the third listing in returned sites from Google. I am sure, after reading a few lines of my current post, the young man was not pleased that he hit someones personal journal, but I was pleased for the hit, nontheless. Wednesday, February 19
cubby holes, templates, and new stuff More projects are coming up and developing. And I'm paying some visits so you might get a postive email from me. - Renee is cross linking from blog to wiki using her cubby holes. That's a nifty way of integrating the two writing spaces. - Stacey is holding conferences. - politicrit is engaging in heated exchange with the BBC's Talking Point - Pepys is learning to play the the vial and sing. - Rowanstaff is being as prolific as possible - but also placing some interesing links in his observations about RPG. - Joshua Page has opened the Open Door wiki. - Chad is using his blog to make connections between Advanced Poetry class and the Blogs class on - and has an interesing template effect. - and Juanita's Voice of a Child shows that you need tech support for children. If your project is up and running, post it here so I can add it to the Projects List. If it's up and running and you are looking for some engagement from others (there are a number of project like this) post a link to it here too inviting people to join in. When you blog or wiki appears under projects on the blog roll, you know that I've got you on the radar. If you need a wiki set up for your project (Karl? others?) send me an email giving - the name of the wiki - the name of the entry page [end of advertisement] My project proposal has its final approval so I can start working on it. I found a wiki site for part of my project, it surprises me how this whole other world existed out there before I learned of it in class. I am trying to find an article about Hubert H Humphrey wiki when he was mayor of Mpls in the 40's. This article would is about a child that did in the mayor's office after the family was refused medical attention by area hospitals for not being residents of the city therefore Humphrey was a leader in bringing health care to all citizens of Minnesota. If anyone can help lead me to that artilce I would appriciate it. Can you guys edit your blogs smoothly these days? I bet the buyout effects it's work! I worked for a whole moning. and I only posted several lines on it. Even these words, I am not sure if they can stick on it. I thought this was interesting, blogs as political protest tool I hope Mackenzie sees this. There are a lot of stories out in cyberspace about blogs serving as a defacto alternative news media, the thought of the "power" of the press coming back to the people must be terribly frightning to certain governments. Well, I started making cubby holes for my project. And then I spent an hour setting up links from my blog to the cubby holes and rearranging the links on my blog to reflect the status of our class: project mode....and the changes wouldn't take. I've been having trouble with my blog for a few days or so, I removed the shout out because I thought it was the problem, it would come up with "errors" and shout out would not upload. But, it hasn't helped. I'll be looking up our Lab Angel soon for help. I forgot I wanted to announce my project has begun Distance Learning I have collected a ton of notes already so organizing myself is next on the agenda. I spent the evening catching up so I can start out fresh! Donald, I just checked out your link to your project. I hope this works out for you with the students, I will be interested in your progress. It will be interesting to see what developes as far as Google's purchase of the company that owned Blogger.com, this whole web expansion and chasing dollars saga as the internet developes is amazing. It doesn't seem that long ago when people scoffed at the notion that anyone would ever pay to watch televison! Tuesday, February 18
I set up a /ConstructionNotices post on a part of my wiki project tonight. The groundwork is taking more time than I figured, but contruction is progressing. Selling out? I read the Gillmore Article ands followed severallinks. My only concern is that we may be seeing the start of blogging as business rather than blogging as personal. Time will tell... Bought Out Over the weekend, it was announced that Google bought Blogger. The main story is told by Dan Gillmore, with links to other perspectives and discussion. linkity link links Got my wiki pages mostly set up. I am placing templates onto each page so my mom can add with more ease. The navigation may be difficult so I may have to redesign that part. Last night I read Andrea's wiki. I'm very impressed with her story's beginning (she put some little hooks in the prologue - what's on the little paper, for instance) and I am looking forward to more. Monday, February 17
hey, I was notified that my blog Closer to Edger was published on the Fresh Blog side bar of Blogger did anyone else see it....?!?!?! *cartwheels* I've made the inagural post to AtALoss4Words so please check it out! I've dropped road2graduation (aka it no longer exists) like a bad habit - hope it doesn't mean bad karma for actual graduation. Ready, steady, go! Projects have started! Post post post! Don't be left behind! Don't wait until later - do it now! (Enough enthusiasm for you?) Keep on top of this. When you find something to post or work with on the wiki, post it. My blog is running along smoothly. In the future, for assignments, I hope to use my wiki. Is that okay? Sunday, February 16
I placed my first chapter on my Project wiki. Actually made it a prologue cause it was so short...but it sure was fun writing...I am adding length to First Chapter before I throw it up there as well. New Stuff Up I've added a number of projects to the blog roll, so new material should be coming soon. Congrats to Stacey for scoring the address of bsuteacher.blogspot.com for her project. Saturday, February 15
How about a little reading, a lot of downloading, alot of searching, I think the hardest part is going to be focus in my project. There is just so much stuff out there. Actually I have been in a daze all day thinking about it. My family is getting irritated by having to repeat themselves over and over till I finally hear them... I'm right there with you, Don. A little reading, and a lot of writing COMPOSES my Friday and Saturday night. Not enough hours in a day. But I do have the first two chapters of my Pulp Fiction project done....just need a home for them. And I am going to do some more work on the second chapter. To much exposition, not enough bloodshed. It's all good when its fiction... This place has sure been quiet! Here it is Saturday night, and you can see who has nothing else to do but blog a bit. Is anybody else out there? Friday, February 14
hey I have a quiz on what poetry style is you, it's fun, I posted it on my blog, I didn't link because its on the side bar...hehehe Shameless, shameless plug: Go see the Vagina Monologues tonight or tomorrow, 7:29, BG Recital Hall, all proceeds go to a good cause! Quality entertainment! Wednesday, February 12
Update and link to project proposal If you've been asked to revise your project proposal, do so on the wiki. Then, print it out and hand it in in hard copy on Friday. And please create a link from your blog or wiki to your project proposal. On the blog, place it on a side bar. [cross posted to Calendar] Legal: Responsibility for your own words I've made an addition to the syllabus concerning responsibility: There's an old saw on the internet: You own your own words. We'll be reading Blood and an article on this for Friday. Tuesday, February 11
While playing with colour scheme, the concept of color blindness was brought to my attention. Not thinking of this, I was pointed towards two sites that deals with color blindness. So if your playing with background and lettertype color-codes: then check it out. Monday, February 10
I have to agree with Faith. Sharon's web pages are marvelous! She has done a wonderful job that has enable the reader to do time travel with her. I have to admit that I feel as if I am way out of my league when I look to others and their works to present my works. What a amature. How could I possible make anything of my works comparable. I wish that I had somewhat of an immagination to formulate such articulate writings. Sharon you have done an outstanding job. Although there were a few problems with images they are minuscule to the overall body of work. Bravo. I think you should check out this web page Sharons Webfrom the advanced web design class. Sharon has done an outstanding job! Wow! I got all choked up reading it. Really beautiful job Sharon! dear all, politicrit is my new blog and the vehicle for my course project. please take a tool around, hammer, wrench, what ever your fancy ladies and germs, politicrit is uprunning......its mouth off. i'd also like to add that i have truly enjoyed reading all of the class blogs and wikis so far. looking forward to the future of your, um, futures. signed, mackypinky Syllabus update I have made some clarifications on the Blogs and Wiki: CourseSyllabus as we talked about last Friday - cutting the ToDo assigment (making it optional, actually) - rotating weekly assignments, with a 3rd week off For questions on how points add up, refer to the syllabus, as well. [cross-posted to the Calendar] Project proposal is complete. I had a hard time last night and again this morning posting it, so I brought it in on a disk and posted in the Cal classroom this morning. clc Network Downtime The HS leg of the BSU network was working poorly last evening and part of this morning. The wiki was available off and on, but the Daybook and Calendar, and the main CAL server were not. Other backlashes occured on campus. All your postings to the Daybook had been stored by Blogger. I just published them to the server so they are now available. All has been restored to peace and tranquility. Maybe I can help you get there? Are you still awake? Here is the link to the wiki - Entry Point if you still can't sleep. I had several major interuptions this weekend, but no worries, I FINALLY completed: My proposal, my comments about classmates Blood vs. Bernstein Assignment, and I updated my Bio page a little. A little microwave fire disabled me from completing these earlier. It is late! Alright, I see that two people were able to post on their wikis their project proposals. I still can't get in there. I wonder how they did it. This has been driving me nuts nearly one in the am and unable to sleep because of wanting to get my proposal up and the dang thing still isn't working! Some of us are going to need some kind of break over this. Hope sleep comes easier for me but I doubt it. See you all in class as I drag my weary butt and swollen eye lids through the door. My concept is complete. As Joshua Page pointed out on wed., we OTA students tend to talk freely about ourselves. My project proposal revolves around this idea. Let the education machine take hand. Well, I have a /Project Proposal posted on my Wiki, if everything works here. I might tweak it a little in the morning, if I have time...but it's out there, finally! Sunday, February 9
Okay, I thought it was just my defunct computer that wouldn't open calstaging! In a strange way its relieving to know I'm not the only one. At least I composed it in Word so I have my hard copy, but I will try to put it up on my wiki again tomorrow. Grrrr..... I am unable to access calstaging. Will have to try and post my proposal prior to class in am. Hopefully it won't take that long and will meet with Mike's firm deadline. I am outa here, time for bed. Still can't access calstaging. Will try to post proposal later--and with a handy new feature that will only allow viewing upon pre-payment of a one-time fee of $19.95. It's so worth it! i think that the calstaging server may be down, but the wiki is safe.....for now. whoooohooohooo haaaahhaa Ok, in the short time it took me to type the previous post, the goods are up and running again. Here's my proposal. Apparently the BSU server or something has gone down. I thought maybe it was just the computer at my office, but now that I'm home, I'm unable to access anything for this course (except this, because it's external). Anyway, my proposal is complete and I'm hoping I got it posted to my wiki before the server went to hell. If not, I have it saved in Word and will repost tomorrow, assuming all will be up and running. I'll also link to it on here then. Joshua Page but others might be interested too. Here's a writing wiki on which the content has been created by students: the University of Tampa Writing Process Wiki. I know Joshua was looking at setting up a writer's wiki. Should have a look at some of the stuff that's happening elsewhere to get some ideas. My proposal is done. Also, please follow Renee's example and play with the writing prompt in my wiki subpage. reading blogs and wikis Rule #1 when reading blogs and wikis: Pace yourself! I've been reading since 7:30 this morning, and I've burned out for the day. I'll be finishing responses and comments Monday starting in the early am, and early afternoon. But there is some interesting things going on... Welcome to Myra. I'm hoping to run into your daughter later this afternoon at a concert. My project proposal is finished (I hope), with a space at the bottom for comments. New participant We have a new person in the virtual side of class. MyraLindahl has appeared on the wiki. Say hello. Friday, February 7
Somebody we know called Jessica has awsome news.substitute Seattle for FriscoWhooo Hooo! Happy happy Joy Dance forJessicaCongradulations! I have finally finished my look at my classmates' blogs (after considerable fighting with the horribly inept Charter Communications and their excuse for an Internet connection in my home) and if you would like to read them, you can find them at my blog. I almost forgot to mention that I too looked at my fellow students' wikis regarding B Meets B and reviewed them on my blog. Aha! I figured out my problem with not being able to obtain access again to this blog. At blogger I am known as two people; jeudeikis and jeff eudeikis. I have a good start on my ProjectProposal and I am concerned now with narrowing its field of vision. I was invited and able to blog on The Cold Comfort Blog which is pretty groovy, and in mine I recently took a look at some other wiki's and what they wrote concerning Bernstein meets Blood. Back to the grind! backlinking Andrea linked to a blog in her BmetB response, and the blogger she linked to mentioned Andrea. Look for the link in this context -
Another voice heard from I came across this while looking around jill/txt. Her partner, who's in Australia, is doing work on vlogs (video blogs), and uses this as one of his starting points:
I find the distinction between blogging (networked and linked writing) and writing online is a valuable one for thinking about what we're doing. And how blogging becomes networked writing, and networked by means of linking, is being borne out on many - if not all - of your blogs. This one Dave Berry blogis for the political activists cause protests take all forms. oops! Dave Berry blog for real this time I Don't know how I did it, but I got looped and lost some of my work a couple of times. Here is ClassMates for my Blood Meets Bernstein visits. Thursday, February 6
Jing Tong, How do you get the link list to work? I have been trying all day and haven't managed it. We have the same template, but I haven't been able to add to any of the sidebar stuff. When I post and publish in mine it works right away, within seconds. I get messed up when I try to edit something, though not all the time. I have lost most of my blog also, WoooHoo, lost in space;0) I always meet this kind of trouble. After I posting and publishing in my blog, I can't see any change in my blog for a long time. Now, it is happening. I posted at about 6:00pm, and then I did some changes in my template, and scanned some others' blogs. It is 10:50 pm now. My blog still keeps its silence. Actually, my first blog was deleted by me because of this reason. Now, I have to be patient. Thought this was beautiful recieved it this a.m. earth on a clear night It made me think of Renee's post on lights Wednesday, February 5
Yesterday and the day before were minor irritations, as I couldn't access the CAL classroom from my computer. I promise that I will get to work on my wiki. Facinating article on emails, especially since we are considering wikki and blogs as writing spaces. writing spaces Tuesday, February 4
Good news. The libray's old computers r changed. High speed, new browser--"Mozilla"? and we can edit wiki here. Did the workers hear our complain? cold comfort blog Okay I was messing around tonight and discovered that if I use my url from the sidebar of the collective to get to my blog it does not show any postings since Jan 29. If I am logged into my blog it shows them completely updated. Any ideas why? I am going round in circles here. Right: Everyone into the pool! It looks like most of the responses to B meets B have been posted to the wiki (some are late. ok once, not so good twice). I'll be responding to them over the next couple of days so you can get used to how I read. But what I've read so far is really interesting stuff and well handled. Over the next couple of days, look at a few from your colleagues and add a reaction to the page where invited - or, what the hey: Blog the wiki. And you might want to have a look at rebecca blood's response to Mark B's review. I know some of you visitied her site, but you might have overlooked her response to Mark B. She has read your work. In an email, she said, "I appreciated your student's comments, the entire range of them." You've been blogged. Look! haha, made you look. Anyway, I have my Blood essay posted on my website, go ahead and check it out. And while you are there, be sure to look at Your Writing Space for a fun activity set up for all the class! Enjoy. I am now able to post to the daybook! I am always the last to get picked to play. I've enjoyed reading the B&B responses. Juxtaposing people's critical writing with their creative/personal blog writing is interesting. My Wiki explores blog personas for the moment until I start my project. Monday, February 3
Well days late due to internet issues and now finally getting the invitation! Whoohoo~ My blog is up and running, albeit at a crawl, but you need to learn to do that before you can walk, correct? And now there's issues with the wiki, but as I am playing catch up, this is somewhat okay! I will complete my task tomorrow night as I am in the middle of writing a simple piece for The Bible as Literature. Aloha~! Wiki down The wiki's acting up - I'm not sure what it is, but no one can edit, although you can read it. I'll try to get it running properly by Tuesday, 10:00 am or so, and will post a note here when it's up again. In the meantime, you can do what Mackenzie did: post to your blog to store the stuff, then move it to the wiki when it comes back to life. {Damn computers. It was so easy when ... } Whoops, looks like there is lots of company tonight. The wikki won't let me log in, I checked and rechecked the administrative password and that isn't it. Blog is working fine. I think the wikki doesn't like my whoo whoo page tee hee. It was working fine this am. Is this a new way of ''non verbal communication?'' I have had problems posting in wikis from home as I see many others have had. I keep checking back to see if I can't log in. No luck yet. I found the problem this afternoon and e-mailed Mike thinking that I was doing something wrong, (as I almost always do). Thank God my blondness didn't come out this time. I tried to make additons to my Wiki Name Page and got the same fatal error other people are experiencing. I was trying from home. I had already posted to the Wiki on Sunday from Home. One more thing: Karl Klint, I tried responding to your wiki, I think it was your BSU account, but it was just returned to me saying you had "fatal errors." Sorry to hear that. Let me know when you get it working! I am having the same problem Mackenzie is. I am home and wanted to get into my wiki and add my email link and do the first page, but when I tried to go into Preferences, I got: Could not get user-ID lock at /Users/morgan/Sites/cgi-bin/blogsAndWiki.pl line 2997. I guess I'll try again later or just save it for when I get to my office tomorrow. Booo! This is exactly why wikis are so frightening. I have posted my B&B essay on perfectly norml for now. As aoon as I can post to the wiki I will remove it from my blog and replace it on the appropriate wiki page. I left the wiki codes in the text for ease of the copy-paste maneuver. I have been trying to post my B meets B response from the superlab, but the wiki tells me this: Could not get editing lock at /Users/morgan/Sites/cgi-bin/blogsAndWiki.pl line 3226. Topic: Late responses to B meets B I'll be reading your responses to B meets B Tues and Weds - and be getting you some feedbck. The ones I've looked at are pretty good - way interesting. If you haven't posted a complete version (signaled by posting a note to this Daybook) by now, your response is late. I'll be looking at your responses later. Points off: you know the routine. I'll also be reviewing your blogging of other sites I assigned a couple of weeks ago and your wiki home page at the same time. I hope to get back to everyone by Friday or Saturday morning. Sunday, February 2
I have finished the assignment, and at an hour other than well-past-midnight. To the sharks I release my viewpoint. I did make a couple of revisions to my response. Nothing huge. So if you wanna trek back over...Bernstein Met Blood Well I have my essay posted in wikis, I think. I have absolutely no idea how to link it from there to here. I have never been so utterly lost. I guess that is what I get for being gone a week. It's hell trying to get caught up when I am moving about blindly. Hopefully tomorrow in class I can get it all worked out. BernsteinMeetsBlood It was SO much easier to write this in Word and then copy it in! Am I the only person who frankly was left COMPLETELY confused? Nonetheless, here is my two sense. This wiki thing is frightening. My essay is dumb...I mean DONE! I hope to tidy it up and figure out how to link the correct way by class tomorrow, but am calling it "good enough" for tonight. The formatting got all sassy on me and none of my headings are showing up as headings. I'll try to tackle that tomorrow as well. G'night all. See you tomorrow. I took a certain point in the article - "Romantic View" - and tried to compare the articles in their different views of what Blood's book was supposed to be about. You could say I pasted on a "negative article" sticker on Bernsteins review. Still working on my BernsteinMetBlood assignment. Although I am still an amature at this, I want to be able to present a well thought critique on the matter. Only problem I seem to be having at this moment is finding a way in which to post this through wikis and most importantly add the appropriate links. Linking is difficult to me for I am not understanding the nuts and bolts of it yet. Perhaps our dutiful instructor could enlighten me better on the process. It seems that I am not the only one that is having some problems with this. Need to take practice runs at this in class. Please. Look for my writing assignment to appear soon but without all the bells and whistles for now. I'm not having any luck with my Wiki, so I've got an entry on I'm thinking I'm done writing my BernsteinMetBlood article, but I'm not feeling it yet. So there may be minor changes later. Great critique Renne. I have not finished (or actually started) this assignment. However I like Rebecca Blood's book very much. I am trying not to prejudge this assignment but it is diffcult not to. Bernstein Meets Blood was easier to write in Word and paste into the Wiki, although if I wanted to add links and such I had to go back and add them in Wiki. Part of why I did it that way, is that I share my internet connect with my son, and he was online when I decided to work on this assignment. Carol Saturday, February 1
After spending a lot of time formatting the work on the wiki and then accidentally closing the browser before I saved the changes on the wiki (I was only previewing, not saving) and then going back and formatting again, I am glad to say I have finally finished the BernsteinmeetsBlood assignment. Will I be surprised by the formatting on my wiki when I view it on a Mac because I edited from my PC? This is addressed in the last pages of the Wiki Way hand out, but I'm not sure what to expect because it is all Wiki to me. |
