How to take good care of your skin.

by Dale Shaw

and other straight-forward tips

To start your skin care:

Different types of skin, use different types of cleansers.

  • Normal skin types use cleansers that lather with water. This is the most popular cleanser.
  • Dry skin uses a cream cleanser that moisturizes as it cleans.
  • Oily skin use a water-based cleanser or a deep cleaning method designed for oily skin types. These slow down the production of oil.

Toners and clarifiers, and their differences.

  • Toners: deep clean the pores.
  • Clarifiers: exfoliate the suface skin. A good one is Clinque's Clarifying Lotion. This product is a liquid that contains salicylic acid and de-flakes the skin of dead cells.

Treatment products that improve your skin

A Treatment product is used before your moisturizer.

  • Some products even out the skin tones, give the skin radiance, diminish the size of your pores. Examples: Skin Illuminating Complex by Elizabeth Arden, Vitabolic by Lancome, Spotlight by Estee Lauder.
  • Some products firm, tighten, and strengthen the skin. Examples: Ceramide Time Complex Capsules by Elizabeth Arden, Diminish by Estee Lauder, Anti-Gravity by Clinique.
  • Treatment products can exfoliate to give you younger looking skin. There are two types of exfoliants: Alpha hydroxy which peel the dead skin cells off. Beta hydroxy which bring the new cells to the surface quicker so the old cells shed naturally.
  • Night Creams can moisturize and repair while you sleep. They have anti-oxidants the fight free radical damage that is caused by pollutants, environmental damage.

Moisturize (the most important step in skin care)

  • Moisturize even if you have oily skin. Over cleaning skin that is oily causes the oil glands to over- produce oil. To maintain the balance use an oil-free moisturizer.
  • Normal skin can find moisturizers that have vitamins that improve looks by fighting environmental damage. Oil-free and light-weight.
  • Dry Skin doesn't need to be dry anymore. Some products can reverse the dryness in 7 days, or boost hydration 450 % and keeping working for hours.

Last word: Please wear a sun screen. 80% of skin aging is caused by the environment; sun damage and pollution. 20% is normal aging. Tanning beds have three times more damage than the sun.

History:  I have been selling cosmetics for 6 years in Northern Minnesota. I have seen many consultants come and go, but I've stayed because I feel better using these products. There is an advantage when you use the better cosmetic products that are available in the large department stores and on the Internet. Technology has advanced in these companies laoratories and these products can help a woman look better than their mate.

Tales: Cosmetic companies copy each other. When one company comes out with an advanced skin care product another company will use that idea. This has advantages for the customer, freedom of choice to intermingle brands. She does not have to stay with one companies products.

Tips for applying makeup

Choose a foundation or make up that matches your skin tones. Apply about a fingertip amount to each section; each cheek, forehead, nose and chin then blend.

Blush color to your preference. Often times to match your lipstick color.

Curl your eyelashes if needed.

There are so many choices in eyeliner colors today. A contrast to your eye color is a nice way to go. An example would be: purple with hazel eyes is very striking. If your happiest with a dark brown eyeliner, wear that.

How to apply eyeliner

The line will always be as close to the eyelashes as possible. Start the line on the top in the center of the eye. The fullest line will be there. Slowly taper line thinner as you draw downward to the outer corner and draw an upward tail. Go back to the center and taper the line thinner as you draw inward to the tear gland.

When picking an eyeshadow color wear whatever color you like. There really is not a color that does not look good on you. If a cosmetic consultant tells you that you can not wear a certain color but you like it, wear it.

Mascara

I think that telling a customer that they need to buy a new mascara every three months is a selling gimmick. If you have thick eyelashes this may be true. I have thin lashes and when a mascara is old it helps me to build my eyelashes. Then use a new mascara over that.

Eye shadow

Light color on eyelid, light color on the bone under eye brow, and tilt head back to find the crease to put the dark contrasting color there.

Or dark color on the eyelid and light color above the center crease.

Eye brows

As a woman gets older she may need to apply color to her eye brows.

The different colors available and what is suitable for you.

Lipsticks and lipliners.

It's not easy to wear dramatic colors. But starting with a color thats darker than what you normally wear is the first step. Then moving into reds and dramatic colors will happen. Lip liners can give you fuller, sexy, kissable lips. An example of lips without a liner and lips with a liner is below.
