Free Range Comics

Free Range Comics is a site dedecated to, well, Free Range Comics. The artist behind Free Range is Douglas Kallberg. The site's original concept was to show not only the comic books but also Doug's other art work. However, this didn't seem to fit with the whole concept. I also wanted to, in some way, show the fact that Doug's comic book art was all in black and white. This is why I used no colors other than black and white throughout the site.

Overall Design

The overall design is very simple. The index page is sort of a splash page; it gives a bit of general info but once you get inot the site there is no need to go back. I decided to use the same page style for the index page, and have no links back to it. I used two identical navigation bars, one on top and one on the bottom. This follows through on every page. The bar contains nearly ever single place you can visit, or are just one click away from it. I liked this setup because it was very easy and quick to get to any page you wanted to.

Design Problems

One of the design flaws is that it is not very easy to add more content, such as another comic book. However, this won't be a problem (most likely) because Doug stopped using the Free Range name. Very little will probably be added ever.

General Problems

One thing that I learned from this is that you can't trust anybody. Doug is my cousin, and about two weeks ago, I asked him to send me some scanned images of his comics. I didn't get them until this Monday. What a pain in the ass.

Final Note

As you look about my site, keep in mind that the whole thing is pretty tounge-in-check. I mean, come on, the mascot is a killer chicken. Also, some of the jokes don't work if you don't know the story behind it, so if you don't get it right away don't worry. Ya had to be there.
