Purpose This site has been designed as a family web site for both sides of the ocean. It is my hope that it will continue to grow and become more and more accurate as relatives from Norway and the United States look it over and review the contents. The organization of this site was done thoughtfully, and methodically to encompass as much information as possible and yet to maintain some simplicity. Many pictures are used. The fact is, that many relatives here resemble many of the relatives in Norway and I think it is important that the family be aware of it. Design Desgining a web page is a lot more time consuming then it looks. First I wanted to make it look appealing to the American relatives and the Norwegian relatives. Since the American relatives live all over the United States, I felt it was appropriate to have a map of the United States with a flag symbol. Likewise the Norwegian flag, in a mountain format, would be appropriate for the Norwegian side of the family. Because both the American and Norweigan flags are red
white and blue, it made sense to use those colors on the
website. For the total Norwegian pages I have used a
slightly different background color and the Norwegian
Mountain Flag symbol is used on both sides of the three
column header. The United States flag is used on one side of
the American immigrant sites and a brighter blue is used for
background color. I felt that the difference in background color was important because it made you feel a little different as you entered those pages, but not so different that it was out of character with the American Flag/Norwegian Mountain part of the website Text Composition It was hard not to get too wordy. There are many things I would like to add here and there, but once again I think the simpilicity is important. It is still possible to get fact into the text without emblishing it too much and still make it appealing to read. Problems Deciding what pictures to use and how to use them was difficult. My family photo albumn contains a multitude of pictures and certianly not ALL of them were appropriate to use. In some cases it was hard to find pictures of the person I wanted at a certain age to keep some bit of consistency in the format established, and so there became a variety of ages and pictures used. One other problem that I am having is how to put in a very lengthy family tree. The Family tree information goes back to the early 1600's and I don't really want to retype it, so I would like to figure out a way to include it. |
