FINAL SITE REPORT

My final site, "A Brief History of the Martial Arts," is a survey of seven, major martial arts, a survey that includes descriptions, history, related forms, and biographies of founders and masters. It is aimed at an audience comprised both of experienced martial artists and potential martial artists.

Each of the primary, seven pages is linked to an exhaustive and detailed outside site, including such popular sites as martialway.com, graciejj.com and judoinfo.com. The secondary pages, those dedicated to martial arts founders and masters, are linked to well-written essays. The tertiary pages, those detailing related arts or related aspects within the same art, are also linked to comprehensive outside sites.

In addition to providing a catalog of significant martial arts links, each page of my site provides a clear and succint description of the art it addresses. The table layout I chose--a template I used on every page--divides the links from the text. In addition, each page provides a related link at the bottom, and the embedded links are signalled by appropriate words.

The first problem I had while developing this site was choosing a template. Initially, I chose a three-celled table, since I intended to put an image in the third cell. However, since all of the images I could find were copyrighted, I eliminated the third cell. The other problem I had was trying to create a rational network of links--I solved this by creating three-levels of pages. Finally, I had to locate a few pages which had somehow found their way into the wrong folder.
