Caroline's Genealogy Journey |
|
My journey of researching my family history began over three years ago. I was asked at Church if I could help out in the Family History Center due to my computer background. Once I agreed, I spent a lot of time reading all the materials available in the center since I was there 6:30 to 8 every Wed in the Family History Center. All the books and handouts tell you to start with yourself and fill out a Pedigree Chart and a Family Group Sheet. So I did and I was greatly surprised on how much of my Mom's information that I did not know. So I began to ask questions and slowly filled in more and more of the work sheets. About six months after I started I had to go back to my hometown of Milwaukee for my sister-in-laws funeral and most of my family had gathered. My Mom mentioned to my Dad that I was interested in genealogy. He said I should write to my cousin Jean Kay and find out what she had. So I did and I got a lot of information on my Dad's side. I began
to use the tools and sources in the Center to find out information. I
used the Internet to help me and the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' Family
Search. Talking with the patrons, who came to use the center, I found
out more websites. |
