How to say good-bye…

Amber Berg

There are many different ways to say good-bye to someone, with shortened versions of these as well. However, there are also extra elements that can be added to your good-bye for you to achieve the full effect. Also, almost any emotion can be expressed with your good-bye.

For a short, simple good-bye, pick any word out of the first column.

If you would like to personalize your good bye, pick any name/noun from the second column. Note: column two can be used before column one in most cases if you so choose.

If you would like to add a hand gesture, add one from the third column, or make up your own.

1.

Good-bye
‘Bye
Bye-bye
Buh-bye
See you later
See ya
Later
Catch ya later
Farewell
So long
I love you
Good night
Toodle-oo
Peace-out

2.

Joe
“enter name here”
Guys
Sir/Mam
Everyone
Ladies and Gentlemen
Loser/s
Kids
*

3.

Hand shake
Pat on the back
Thumbs up
Wave
The Finger
Salute
Slap on the rear

*Any nick-name with or without foul language can also be substituted here but you have to make those up on your own.

Examples

“Good-bye everyone”, with a wave as you’re leaving, is pleasant and polite.

"Good night, kids," can be used by parents when their children are going to sleep.

“See ya, Losers,” can be interpreted as a friendly way to say good-bye if you’re leaving your friends but can be modified to be used in other ways. For instance, if you add the finger it can provoke a feeling of anger or bitterness.

Combinations that might be a bad idea:

"See you later, Mr. Jones," with a slap on the rear. (Mr. Jones being your boss.)

"Toodle-oo, Sir," with a thumbs up wouldn't work for your comanding officer.

"Peace-out, ladies and gentlemen," isn't something you would want to say at a formal affair if you're trying to impress someone.
